You can't hear Jimi....  --  Monday, March 26th

It's been a while since there's been a blog...

And I hate to disappoint all the non-BSG fans of S's & S's S, but I have to write about last nights season finale...

So spoilers below if you haven't see nthe ep. and don't want to know what happened before you do.

Here we go--

First, wow!

Second, Frack! That was awesome. The article that Craig showed me the afternoon of really had it pegged--whatever you thought might happen going into it, you were wrong.

K, where I was (sorta) right--Kara came back. Now whether she really is one of the five remains to be seen--there were allusions to that with the 'Eye of Jupiter' as well as 'Xena' seeing one of the 5 in her vision and cutting to Kara in the next scene--but she has to be a cylon ('cause she died a few eps back (at least it looked like she did in that fireball and me thinks that Ron Moore is far too good to write in a 1940's serial cliffhanger 'good guy takes a back door that no one knew about to get away from the monster machine'))

Didn't see Tigh being same--that came out of the blue. Chief? Signs were there with the dreams last season and all. And president's assistant and Kara's husband? No signs that I saw.

But there they are--the 5 (maybe).

And they can hear Jimi.

So the final ep can be boiled down to a line from 'White Men Can't Jump'. K, that was odd.

Of course, the entire ep. was odd--the people in the court room having their opinions swayed by Lee's passionate tirade--'I'm a coward--I ran...' Brilliant! Swayed Adama and 2 other judges. Roslin calling Adama out on it--great acting from both actors--the feelings running across their faces said more than the words there.

So, not to rip off from 'Lurkers Guide to B5', but we do have 8-9 months before we see the next episode (Grrrr!!!), I have a few unanswered questions--

Why did the president have the weird reaction to the nebulae before the ships got all spazzed out? Does her cancer or the drugs for the cancer cause some sort of connection to this region of space?

If Kara is a cylon (one of the 5 or not--matters not for this question) and she was ressurected, where did she get the viper from? Do base stars have a way of manufacturing colonial hardware/suits?

Tigh and the presidents assistant--two people (who may be cylons) are closest to the ultimate authority of what's left of humanity--k, that's not really a question--it's just plain scary.

Sharon's and Helo's child--Hera--was a 'gift of the gods' but had lotsa medical issues (considering that one parent is a cylon and the other one is human and all that) that required medical intervention. If Chief is a cylon, what's the deal with his and Cally's baby? The baby seems perfectly fine.

What else...

K, if you're a well run military organization, would you allow a non-viper pilot access to a viper? It doesn't matter who you are or whose kid you are--Lee resigned from the military, yet walked right back into the launch bay as if nothing happened--and no one stopped him.

K, that last one was nitpicky.

So we have the fleet getting closer to the Earth--is that why these (maybe)cylons can hear Jimi? It's transmitted thru space a la 'Contact'?

Or is it something else--like my hypothesis that the BSG people have had the same 'evolutionary' traits as us here on Earth--I mean they have Hummers and other 'Earth-type' hardware. Or, as another one of my hypotheses--the 'Galacticans' were thousands of years before us and they settled the Earth 6+ thousands of years ago--tehy have the same names for constellations--maybe, in the 'Galactica Universe', they were the founders of the Aztecs, the Mayans, the Greeks... Waittaminit--that's almost the line from the original series--

There are those who believe that life here began out there, far across the universe with tribes of humans who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians or the Toltecs or the Mayans. Some believe there may yet be brothers of man who even now fight to survive, somewhere beyond the heavens. "

K, if that's what it is--that the 'Galacticans' settled here 6000+ years ago, that'd be a little cool. Or, maybe that 13th colony that left 4000+ years ago--they settled here and the Galactica is just now catching up. That'd put our timeline--2000 BC(ish) when the 13th tribe came to Earth--one could make the case that, in the Galactica universe, they were the forebearers of the Greeks, with the constellation names, et al. Which means the Galactica could hit here in our 'present day' (hopefully not as bad as when Galactica 80 hit here in that time--that was not so good for anyone...)

Wow, the sci-fi discussions could go on...

Anyway, back to the last ep of this season (and to wrap this up)

That last zoom across the galaxy was spectacular--'I've been to Earth and I'll take you there'.

By gods, I think we have the best sci-fi on television in the history of sci-fi on television.

There must be some kind of way outta here...
Said the joker to the thief
There's too much confusion
I can't get no relief

Quick Kitchen Reno  --  Monday, March 12th

New countertop

This is just an interm solution to our small counterspace problem in the kitchen.

For a few hours on Saturday, Sandy and I moved the fridge over a few feet, and added a bigger countertop between the fridge and the stove.

This is the way the area used to look--

Old...

Not the best angle to see what we did, but look! Fridge is gone!

New...

So we added a shelf for the microwave--getting that off the countertop, and, well, we added a countertop!

This was the 'surprise plan'--I didn't let Sandy in on it whilst perusing the 'Reuse it Store', Home Despot and, eventually, Ikea, but she had an idea after a while because, well, I was looking for a countertop.

We didn't find anything we liked at the first two stores, but, as usual, Ikea comes thru in the end.

Sandy and I walk into the 'As Is' section at Ikea and we notice that another couple was examining this coutertop--eeep! We act all non-chalant and just sort of hover around the 'as is', fakely checkign out the other furniture/stuff there, and were extremely estatic when the couple put the countertop back in the rack.

Immediately, we confiscated the countertop, coupled with a cornucopia of countertop supports and proceeded to the payout area.

After all that, we got home, moved the fridge, and assembled the various pieces. For 40 dollars, we doubled our counterspace, and it looks pretty good to boot.

Now all this is only temporary. Sandy and I are slowly building a plan to do a complete kitchen reno--Holmes on Homes style--we're ripping out the entire area and building up from scratch.

Howver, the finances have to be there first, and, after the basement/bathroom/bedroom renos that we've already done over the past year--we're kinda reno'ed out.

When it happens, however, you'll see it here smile

Rabbit Hunter - The NXT Game  --  Thursday, March 8th

No, it's not about killing real rabbits...

So I get LEGO Mindstorms NXT the other day. I'll write more later on this wonderful purchase, but for now, my 'first' development for the NXT is one little video game--

Rabbit Hunter

I did this first, and foremost, to get used to the new programming interface.

Secondly--hey, it's a video game on an NXT!

Not that it hasn't been done already, but I had fun with it anyway.

Yes there's room for improvement, but for now, there you are.

See how many rabits you can shoot in a minute!

If you miss, you lose points.

If you let the rabbit run off the screen, you lose points.

Just so ya know smile

Of course...  --  Tuesday, March 6th

I have a very smart wife...

The undead zombie baby seals *may* have been a result of me eating almost an entire box of Honeycomb cereal--dry--before we went to bed.

So sayeth my wife.

I'm the lucky one--weird dreams aside.

Woke up with a start this morning  --  Monday, March 5th

Do people still say that? Did they ever??

Anyway, it was around 4 a.m. and I suddenly woke up. It was a dream--eh, not a good one.

My dreams aren't easy to recall--if it didn't happen '5 minutes' before I woke up, then there's no way I remember them--that's probably a good thing (if you continue to read, you'll see that). The one from last night went as thus--

I'm watching a commercial--Basketball players shooting hoops on a court--when the ball is in the air, the court morphs into an aerial view of cottage country, and the ball gracefully goes thru a net attached to a tree somewheres in the Muskokas--tag line says, 'Cottage Country--your place--the way you want it...'

Then somehow I'm in the trees, climbing and going from one tree to another, and, of course, the trees are at the top of a bluff--an escarpment bluff such as you find along Ridge Road in Stoney Creek, but of course, we're still in 'cottage country'. (In my dreams, I know where I am--which is odd 'cause, besides the trees, the dream looked nothing like any place I've been in the Muskokas...)

So here I am, in my dream now, climbing trees and noting that it's a far way to drop if I should fall out of one... and then the 'Hey, I hate it when it feels like I'm falling in a dream and I wake up with a start' kinda thing happens, so a little to the left--after transversing a few trees, I find the ground is more of gentle slope.

So I climb down from the trees, into the gently rolling wooded area and note that there are a few racoons. Not too many, but one or two amongst the trees with me.

So I start walking and come across a road sloping 'down to town'. Again, how I *know* this road goes into town is the dreams guess--I just *know* that's where this road goes.

So I start walking, then I happen upon my snow shovel (the one that, outside of my dream is on our front porch at Sandy's and my abode...)

Even though the trees are in full 'summer mode' with abundance of sun-blocking leaves, and the foilage on teh ground denotes July, my snowshovel that I happen upon along the road here has snow around it.

So I pick up the shovel--for what reason I don't know--shake off the snow, and proceed down the tree covered hill towards town.

What I'm not mentioning, but was happening in this here dream of mine, was that the grey-black racoons were slowly getting thinner and showing more and more ribs, and looking patchy and splotchy, and eventually were turning into--I kid you not--undead zombie baby seals.

Again, how I absolutely *knew* that these creatures follwing me were undead zombie baby seals is a mystery that only staunch dream interpreters could explain at some future date. All I know was, in my dream, the racoons became flesh seeking undead zombie baby seals.

And they were follwing me into town--flopping themselves forward, as seals do, along the pavement behind me.

Those critters were moving pretty quick to boot.

And they were multiplying.

Before, 1-2 future Davey Crockett hats were in the woods.

Now, Dawn of the Arctic Dead following me in droves.

Thankfully I had my trusty snow shovel.

So I scoop up the nearest one with my snow shovel and fling it far into the woods, where I heard a satisfying *splat* against a tree and saw the undead baby seal fly into parts.

Well, each one of those parts, just like an actual starfish, spawned a smaller version of an undead zombie baby seal, and those came flopping after me, too.

Well, I get into town--deserted. Cars piled everywhere and buildings boarded up. I hear a dog bark in one of the closer houses so I go investigate. Again, I *know* that having a dog with you when you're being pursued by undead zombie baby seals is a pretty good thing and your chances of being a Star Trek 'Red Shirt' goes significantly down if you have Fido next to you.

So I break into the house thru a window--the doors were all boarded up, see--and I hear the dog barking from a locked room.

I'm about to open the door but pause--waittaminute--seals have a bark as well--maybe an undead zombie baby seal is in there, trying to lure me in...

I turn around and see droves of zombie seals piling up in front of the window that I just smashed, and they were able to flop into the house and come towards me.

That's when I woke up with a start.

So here I am, lying in bed at 4 a.m., listening to Sandy gently sleeping beside me, and what i'm wondering (as my heart was racing), "Did my 'Dave Dream Hero' with his trusty snow shovel vanquish the undead zombie baby seals?"

I don't know.

And, right now, I'm safe to say that I hope I never have a continuation of this dream to find out.
