We hope that people aren't this cruel...  --  Wednesday, February 27th

Have you seen this bird?

Our neighbour, Philip, heard what he thought was a gunshot a few days back.

Since then, our regular backyard visitor has not made an appearance.

Strutting on the fence

Look people, Sandy and I didn't try and feed the furry and feathered forest creatures through the winter so you could have them for dinner!

On our deck

We tried to help out Gods little creatures by making the winter time a little less severe for them--especially this past winter!

But if someone decided to kill this big beautiful bird...

I just hope it's just a coincidence that we haven't seen it.

By the by, we had two visitors in the 'wild turkey' variety paying us visits--mama bird and papa bird. They even had a roost across the valley

Going home to roost

Yeah, I get that hunting is a perfectly valid way of sustenance. I would take no issue with someone doing similar hunting outside the city limits where it's legal and such.

However, right in the middle of the gorram city where it's hard enough to view nature in its glory, someone has to come along and ruin ?!?

If the wild turkey was indeed killed, and if I ever find out who killed it... well, a phone call to the police regarding discharging firearms within city limits may be in order.

Sandy and I really try and do what we can to make life easier for those around us. Not for fame, glory, or for anything other than the idea that it's the right thing to do.

And because this bird found food in our back yard, maybe it's dead now. Things like this really bothers us and makes us question whether we are, indeed, helping.

And the answer really is that yes, we're helping, but the (pardon the crudeness) jackasses of the world--as usual--ruin it.

Big Bird

Well wild turkeys--wherever you may be--hope you're doing okay.

We did a little flooring...

Sandy and I decided that our condo in the 'Saug needed a new kitchen floor.

With this in mind (and we'll keep the stories to a minimum because most of condo kitchen flooring stories revolve around me not getting enough tile or mixing enough cement...) Sandy and I headed over to Lowes to pick up some new ceramic floor tile.

Sandy picked out a 'Classic White Porcelain' with gray highlights, adn a light gray grout to match.

That was the easy part.

The tougher part was the removal of the old floor...

Old floor

The old tiles weren't put down well, so their removal was pretty quick.

Big pile of bad tiles

The cleanup of the old bonding cement, on the other hand, required a little bit of effort

Sandy chipping away the old tile cement

But once that was all done and swept away, we had a nice clean cement floor to work with

Maybe we just paint the cement and be done with it...

After drawing a few guiding lines and mixing the cement, it was time to place some tiles

Placing the first tile correctly is critical

Then, 66 tiles later, we're done with the tiling

Tiles all down

The next step is the grouting--usually happens 24 hours after the tiles are put down. I, of course, forgot the camera for that, so you'll just have to make due with seeing the finished product--

Done deal!

So here we have the comparison shots--

Before and After

It was a fun few days for San and I.

Anyway, have a boo at all the condo kitchen floor pics here--Condo Kitchen Floor Redo

Hello Mike  --  Friday, February 15th

Classic TV makes another comeback

I heard rumours a while back that someone was going to make a Knight Rider movie or something...

But I was as surprised as I could be when I fuond out that this Sunday night there's a 2 hour premiere on the telly!

Knight Rider

Have a boo at the vid (after sitting thru the commercial).

K, the vid looks cool.

I'll be the first to state that watching an original episode now is a little tough--it was pretty cheesy and campy. That didn't stop us 40-somethings from watching it pretty religiously when it was on.

So I'll watch the 2 hour movie on Sunday.

I mean, we have to agree that the new Battlestar Galactica is exceptional, and many people were yipping before it premiered that it'd be a flop 'cause it was based on a 'cheesy and campy' late '70's television show.

So KITT, welcome back.

My next ride...  --  Monday, February 4th

'Cause you know that the Mighty Dodge will eventually stop...

Someday. We're not sure when. 350,000 km and still going... (must be an energizer bunny in there somewhere)

Anyway, I was really impressed by the Air Car a few weeks back. The car runs on, well, air (compressed). You get 200-300 km per air fill, and you 'fill up' the air tank at home by plugging in the compressor. Top speed is 110-120 km/h. There is a hybrid version if you wanna go farther than the 200-300 km range.

But this week, two of my favourite blogs posted about an all Canadian made electric car.

First, the Galloping Beaver posted this--Your Moment of ZENN

Then Runesmith's Canadian Content put this up--I Want a ZENN!

So with much further ado and hoopla, go check out the Zero Emissions No Noise automobile that's purely Canadian (but you can't drive one here (yet))

Both blogs link to a Rick Mercer YouTube vid (so ya know there'll be shenanigans involved). So with much further ado, I linky to the same vid--

The ZENN could retail for around 12 grand (when it gets approved to drive in Canada).

A Canadian designed, developed and built car that's good for the environment?

Count me in!

Our sci-fi dog  --  Saturday, February 2nd

Friday wants to be out of this world...

(with all apologies to the late great Andreas Katsulas--I hope he'd appreciate this)

First--G'Kar from Babylon 5--

Next, our puppy Friday--

I don't think Friday'll ever be a guard dog--yet alone Londo's bodyguard...

But I thought it was cute.

We got the doggy jacket from Philip and Avis--our neighbours. Originally it was the jacket they got for Topsey (their dog) but Topsey's outgrown it.

We're appreciative of their generosity--Friday loves playing in the snow and now we can keep him warm.

So there you are.

So it's SuperBowl weekend...  --  Friday, February 1st

And for those that care, have fun watching!

As many of my friends already know, me and professional sports--not so much with the appreciating.

Hey, if you like watching grown men that get paid more than you and all your friends combined chase some piece of pigskin up and down a field--all the more power to ya!

I couldn't even tell you which teams made it. Listening to the radio over the last few weeks, I could tell you that one of the teams playing at the SuperBowl is undefeated through the entire season. That in itself is pretty remarkable, but not really piquing my personal interest.

We all have things we like to get enthused about. Most of us have our particular events we like to watch on the telly. Some of us love sports and will be watching all four quarters with eager anticipation. And without any sense of sarcasm, I hope you have a good time.

As for me, I'd rather be watching just about anything else.

Should I be faulted for that?

When people start talking about this quarterback's record or that team's offensive stats, and are surprised when I don't show enthusiasm for same, I get the look--'Well, you just don't get it!'

Well, I cold say the same for the series finale of TNG--I wonder how many of these fans of the football actually watched the finale of The Next Generation with all their buddies? And if you think that's a pretty geeky analogy, let me remind you that that particular finale was shown at the Skydome on the JumboTron and had thousands of people in attendance.

Look people, I get that all of us have our particular 'fandom's--that's not the issue. Thinking less of others because they don't share your enthusiam is.

I could go on, but I think I've made the point.

(and all this was to get the last blog off the front page)
